Do adult diapers hold poop?
Firstly, we need to clarify the basic design and main purpose of adult diapers. Adult diapers, designed for adults, are mainly used to absorb and hold urine for those who have difficulty in controlling their own urination for various reasons (e.g. incontinence, mobility problems, etc.). Their core function is to absorb and lock in urine to keep the wearer dry and comfortable.
Next, we consider the physical and chemical properties of stool. Stool consists mainly of undigested food residues, water, bacteria and other substances, and its texture and composition are very different from that of urine. The volume, shape and consistency of stool is much larger and different from that of urine, making it difficult for adult diapers to be designed and made of materials that effectively contain and lock in stool.
What's more, from a hygiene and health point of view, leaving stool in the nappy can not only lead to discomfort, but can also increase the risk of infection and other health problems.
In summary, whilst adult diapers may theoretically be able to ‘hold’ some stool temporarily, this is not what they were designed for, nor is it a safe or hygienic practice. Adult diapers are primarily designed to absorb urine and are not suitable for holding stool.
Therefore, adult diapers cannot effectively hold poo and are not recommended to do so. For situations where bowel movements need to be handled, specialised adult incontinence pads or other hygiene products are more appropriate.
